Mary J. Blige is one artist who you never wonder ‘if they still have it’. And if you are one of the 1% who do wonder, she was put through the test and passed with flying colors as always.
Youtube and American Express ‘Unstaged’, hosted an evening filled with Mary J. Blige singing all our favorite songs from her 1994 album ‘My Life’ live to an online audience. Since 92′ Mary has been giving us pure talent and selling over 50 million copies of her albums. Known as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige delivers on the request of her public to keep it real and raw. Maybe it has something to do with her overcoming obstacles as ‘a girl from the projects’ coming from the Bronx, in which she thanked her listeners during the concert by singing: “I want to thank you for giving a little girl from the projects a shot“.
The evening was filled with fans singing along to Mary’s classic songs while she showed her appreciation by breaking down on stage. Recognizing the emotional title she’s received, at times she extended her mic to the audience to hear them singing her songs. (Though I was at home singing along too).
At one point of the concert Mary J. Blige sings tribute to legend Heavy D. for helping her be who she is and helping her accomplish all she has. She emotionally dedicated the night to him while paying homage to Uptown Records. Another notable moment was when Nas took to the stage to perform with her performing a song off her upcoming album. The song entitled ‘Feel Inside’ will be one of many songs from the ”My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1) album recently released.
In a day and age of artists switching up styles to maintain relevant, she shows that pure talent will never fail the test of time. Her recent album, My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1) is the sequel and extension of her My Life album. Diddy joins her in her jouney to show fans she’s not done yet. Nas, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Drake are all featured on her new album. For more info, be sure to visit her official site HERE.
